The Grand Tour heads into town
Sold from The Grand Tour exhibition, is Letitia Hines beautiful watercolour entitled Early Blossom in Town.
Letitia's family background is important when assessing her art contribution. She was the niece of well-known artist Fredrick Hines (1851-1930). who inherited the family talent for art and painted from an early age. Her works were exhibited in local galleries and art societies in the early 20th century. However, like many female artists it appears that she gave up her art to raise a family and there are no records of her exhibiting in the later years of her life. Her work is similar in style to other watercolourists working at that time and is reminiscent of the early work produced by New Zealand expat, Frances Hodgkins.
