Parisienne Flower in The Grand Tour
The Parisienne Flower Seller from The Grand Tour exhibition by French artist Georges Tournon, has been sold. Georges Tournon was the eldest son of the painter, publicist and illustrator Raymond Tournon and the portrait painter Éléonore Marche.
Georges joined the School of Fine Arts in Paris but remained only a short time. He became a theatre decorator in 1918 and lost his father the following year to the Spanish flu in Villefranche-sur-Mer. In the Montparnasse district, he befriended artists Léonard Foujita, Chaïm Soutine, and Paul Poiret. His niece Marie-Josèphe Tournon also became a painter and art teacher.
Georges Tournon is mostly known for his characterful observational sketches of the vibrant characters he often met working in theatres and performance venues. He spent his life surrounded by artistic and colourful people. His work has always been popular in France, which enabled him to be a full-time artist for many years. He died January 4, 1961 in Douéla- Fontaine.
