Cole Raithby, Dreams in Violet
Gallery artisty, Cole Raithby continues to thrill his audiences. Dreams in Violet, sold to an important NZ collector. The artist explains the composition below.
“Dreams in violet.” portrays a singular tree that works its way up the composition and out of frame. The twisting branches suggest a long history with all the environmental factors it had to face throughout its life.
In a way, I feel all trees have this intimate quality about them where the viewer can imagine how the tree came to the state it’s in now. Each tree seems to have its own story, and personality. The form of which a tree takes can provoke emotion, and so do the colors.
This work reflects my interest in these subtle stories held within nature’s forms and the way color can shape an emotional landscape.
