Paced by five Maori poupou (pillar) sculptures, this muted view of the Waikato River allows the light to emerge sufficiently to capture the outline of the river banks, trees, foliage and the Victoria Bridge. Hong Cumming’s River of Light watercolour painting from the Our River exhibition has been sold to a visitor both haunted and attracted to the murky cadence of the composition.
