Gaen sells Cass railway station
Cass and Rita Angus are indivisible in terms of New Zealand art history. Any artist entering this space faces the daunting task of adding something unique to the established narrative. Using his novel expressive geometric landscape technique, Gaen accomplishes this task.
Using the train tracks to create a natural parallax perspective that draws in the station buildings, left and right, the anticipated journey towards the Southern Alps appears distant and elusive. The isolated location of Cass in the Waimakariri Basin of Canterbury is reaffirmed.
Cass, Railway Station, 1984 by gallery artist, Gaen from his solo showcase, Land of Captured Time sold quickly on the first day of opening.
