The exhibition, Kiwi Life: Past and Present offers images no longer seen. Sold from the exhibition, Street Cleaner, Dunedin, by Ella Juliet Spicer (1876-1956) is an excellent example of a scene that could not be painted today. Horse and cart, no cars, a quiet street under brush.

Ella Spicer’s art work is included in the collection in the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa, the Turnbull and Hochen Libraries. At the beginning of the twentieth century she exhibited prolifically in fine art galleries throughout New Zealand.
