Sponsored by Edwards White architects, the 39th exhibition held by the Welcome Swallow Gallery. was officially launched Friday 17th October 2025. A packed gallery shared a delightful evening that resulted in several exhibition sales that matched the feeling of good will that was perhaps engineered by the first warm sunny day of Spring.
The evening began with Chair and Trust CEO, Dorothy Gilson welcoming attendees while emphasising the importance of supporting (and buying) the great art on display that in turn helps children who currently lead incredibly tough lives. The baton was then past to EdwardsWhite Director Harry Croucher who anchored the evening by explaining the significance of design and structure in the work carried out by EdwardsWhite. Moreover that this sometimes included re purposing buildings and structures, much like many of the paintings on display in the exhibition.
Gallery curator, Clive Gilson spent a few minutes explaining the origins of the exhibition brief while pointing out the centrality of design and structure to artists throughout history (see montage below l-r compositions by Van Gogh, Hopper and O'Keeffe). Finally, gallery artist Chris Greenslade shared with the audience his experience of contributing his four pieces to the exhibition. He explained how he tried to capture atmosphere in his watercolour compositions and that the gallery brief was, in this regard, a significant challenge for him.
