Our River
The Welcome Swallow Gallery, exhibition Our River was launched on a pleasantly warm early Spring evening, Friday 28th August.
A healthy-sized audience (see photos below), spent the evening consulting the exhibition Catalogue and various galley plates, supplemented with copies of the excellent exhibition coverage in the Waikato Times.
Gallery Curator, Clive Gilson introduced the evening by way of reference to the current disaster in Nepal with the severe flooding of several rivers, claiming many hundreds of lives. Gilson sought link these events to the central importance of rivers to communities that are apt to congretate beside them for their life enhancing benefits. He emphasised the incredible committment, skill and artistic talent that the exhibition artists possesed.
By close of business on the first official day of the exhibition, several paintings were recorded as sold. A great start!
