Welcome Swallow Gallery Exhibition F5

It's encouraging to be able to attract art buyers to the point that the gallery has had to refresh a successful exhibition. Accordingly, this weekend has seen a root and branch upgrade of the exhibition with all sold pieces being replaced with new compositions. Although there is still plenty of interest in the paintings that remain, they now have new neighbours! See the quick Catalogue below for more details. Come and check it out. The Permanent Collection too, has undergone a complete revamp. M...

Peter Max was born in Berlin in 1937. He quickly became famous for creating ‘characteristic’ paintings and graphic prints. In parallel with Andy Warhol he became a visionary pop artist of the 1960's and an icon of dynamic neo expressionism, where his vibrant use of Fauvist colouring was typically spliced with layers of psychedelic reference points. At this time, Max represented both the artistry and the fabric of contemporary American culture. Max often dedicated paintings and posters to pol...

SOLD on SATURDAY!

First seen in the christmas in the gallery exhibition 2019, Sandra Barlow's intense study entitled, Apple Blossom has just sold. While the white tinged luxurious red blossoms in full bloom are clearly the central feature of the composition, they are augmented with several buds that are yet to fulfill their promise.  Adding to the visual impact, the leaves are allowed to intrude and spill over the faux matt board that forms the parameters of the painting.  ...

A New Look!

As the Welcome Swallow Gallery and Gifts continues to build its presence and strength in the local community and beyond, the Trustees have sought to invest in a better defined imagery that reflects our growth and confidence in serving the interests of children who face incredibly tough lives. A Day to Remember

After an initial cancellation in August due to the virus re-emergence, the portrait unveiling event finally took place on 15th October. Friends and family jockeyed for position to get the best viewing opportunity once the  portrait had been unveiled via a curtain draw by Lady June's daughters, Susan Hayman and Robyn Mulgrew. Both Tom Scott and MC Mark Sainsbury shared many stories of their wonderful memories with Lady June. The occasion also included some beautiful live music from Martin Gr...

Frances Hodgkins @ Welcome Swallow

Frances Mary Hodgkins is arguably New Zealand’s leading expatriate artist. Her works capture the spirit of an era greatly influenced by Impressionism, en plein air painting, Post-Impressionism and Fauvism - from Matisse to the German impressionists. During her time in Britain she became one of the leaders of the English avant-garde movement. She travelled extensively and evolved her style as seen here, from impressionistic watercolours to her increasingly fluid graphit...

The Jurisich Experience - review

In May 2019, the Welcome Swallow Gallery opened a new exhibition entitled celebration. Right in the middle of the main hall, hung directly from the ceiling were several dozen barely visible thin wires that each supported strong curved wire, seemingly arranged at random, none of them touching the floor. It was truly disruptive; dramatic.
